ORANGE – A couple was hospitalized Thursday morning after becoming trapped inside a car following a crash near Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Orange police and fire officials responded around 8:40 a.m. to a traffic collision between a silver Nissan and a red Mazda in the 400 block of South Pepper Street.
An elderly couple was driving westbound on West La Veta Avenue before colliding with a woman driving a Nissan eastbound on West La Veta Avenue, police Lt. Fred Lopez said.
When officials arrived, both passengers in the red Mazda, as well as the driver of the silver Nissan, were trapped inside the vehicle and firefighters had to pull them out, fire Battalion Chief Kevin Southerland said.
The Mazda’s occupants were taken with traumatic injuries to UCI Medical Center in Orange, Southerland said.
The female driver of the silver Nissan complained of knee pain, but refused treatment, Lopez said.
“The impact of the vehicles looks really bad. Hopefully the accident victims can recover to full health in a reasonable amount of time”, said Attorney Frank Fasel.
