A Metrolink commuter train was involved in a serious accident this morning near Oxnard, CA in Ventura County after hitting a truck that was on the train tracks. The collision caused several of the trains cabins filled with morning commuters to derail. Early reports are that over 28 people suffered injuries including head, neck and back injuries. Local authorities mentioned that at least 4 people were in critical condition.
It is unknown at this time why the truck was stopped on the train tracks, but the driver of the truck left the scene of the accident but was later captured about a mile from the train accident. Transportation investigators were on their way to the scene of the train accident to begin a thorough investigation of the accident.
