A high school sophomore at Century High Luis Torres was killed while sitting in the backseat of a 2009 Honda that was parked on the side of the 57 freeway when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. The collision occurred at 1:59 a.m. on the 57 freeway just north of the Yorba Linda Boulevard off ramp.
A 28-year-old Moreno Valley woman was driving a 2015 Honda that swerved out of the driving lanes onto the shoulder striking the parked 2009 Honda. The impact of the collision caused fatal head trauma to the young man and fractured ribs and sternum of a young woman sitting in the front of the parked car. The driver of the 2015 Honda suffered a broken back. Both women were taken to UCI Medical Center.
The driver of the 2015 Honda identified as Nicole Cortinas, 28 was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and or alcohol according to police reports.
